My Book of Numbers:

kids playing with numbers This section of the website allows children to count to ten in English, Ulster-Scots, and Irish. In its simplest form, the resource can be used to help children practice counting up to 10 using the pictures provided as an aid. However, it can also introduce pupils to Ulster-Scots and Irish words, raising their awareness of language, and how language has roots in different traditions and cultures. Therefore, the resource is suitable for Foundation and Key Stage 1 pupils learning to count, and Key Stage 2 pupils learning about other languages or cultures.

The resource can be used to facilitate discussions about numbers, language and culture, and familiarise children with words used in their locality. For further information on the Ulster-Scots or Irish language pupils can refer to the 'Word List' and 'Picture Word List' sections of the website.

Pupils are learning to:

  • Count from 1 to 10 in English, Ulster-Scots and Irish.
  • Understand that different languages are used locally.
  • Understand that languages are related to different traditions and cultures.
  • Learn and recognise Ulster-Scots and Irish words.
  • Read, listen to, and understand the meaning of English, Ulster-Scots and Irish words.
