TEACHERS Teachers' Guides

All About MeTwo children talking

This resource consists of a 'Pupils Booklet' and 'Teacher Guide'. It enables pupils to construct a story all about themselves, investigating such things as who they are, where they live, their house, their family, their favourite food, their favourite clothes, their face, their body, their connections, their pets, and so on. In studying each of these sections pupils are encouraged to think about important issues, for example, in the food section they can look into types of food, and healthy/unhealthy food, developing understanding in areas such as health.

The resource encourages pupils to collect and display information in a range of formats, such as drawing pictures, maps, cartoon strips, room plans, graphs, tally charts, constructing 3D models, taking photographs, making puppets, as well as writing stories and poems. It also gives pupils the opportunity to partake in a range of activities, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, research, data collection, and physical exercise, for example, interviewing relatives, discussions, and running on the spot.

The 'Pupil Booklet' is set out for use with Foundation and lower Key Stage 1 pupils. However if used with activities recommended in the 'Teacher Guide' it is suitable for Key Stage 2 pupils. As well as offering a range of extension activities, the 'Teacher Guide' provides teachers with a means of introducing Ulster-Scots elements such as language and culture into their classroom, which can be useful for raising pupil awareness of personal, mutual, or cultural understanding.
