Whether ye hae a wheen o wurds or hale rake get ready tae celebrate thegither as Ulster-Scotch Leid Week / Ulster-Scots Language Week returns for 2021!

The aim of language week is to help people to understand more about the Ulster-Scots language, the role that it plays in the lives of its speakers, and the place that it has within our wider community. With this in mind, this year’s themes for language week are Education and a Celebration of new writing in Ulster-Scots.

In support of our ongoing educational programmes language week will see the release of new resources for primary schools. The series includes 60 interactive Ulster-Scots language games which provide an opportunity for children to develop new vocabulary.

The Agency is delighted to collaborate with a range of stakeholders once again and this year we have partnered with Derry City and Strabane District Council, to commission a week-long programme of digital content which aims to build awareness of the language and showcase the rich tradition of Ulster-Scots in the North West.

We have also teamed up with Libraries NI to host a series of talks from both established and emerging Ulster-Scots writers who have recently published new work in the language.

This celebration of new writing will continue with the announcement of the winners of the Linen Hall Library’s inaugural Ulster-Scots Writing Competition and a number of book launches.

Language Week is our opportunity to explore, preserve and develop our Ulster-Scots linguistic identity so join us from 22-27 November and discover more Ulster-Scots.  For more information on this year’s programme Click HERE or like the Ulster-Scots Agency on Facebook.
