Did you know...

...the official Plantation of Ulster was facilitated by the departure of Hugh O’Neill and Hugh O’Donnell, the Earls of Tyrone and Tyrconnell respectively, who sailed from Lough Swilly for the Continent on 3-4 September 1607? This development, usually known as the ‘Flight of the Earls’, created a power vacuum and allowed the Crown to charge the Earls with high treason in their absence and to declare their lands forfeit.
