Global Vision, Vernacular Voice: Andrew Gibson Memorial Lecture, With Dr Frank Ferguson, Ulster University

Dr Frank Ferguson discusses how Scottish poet Robert Burns' popularity and influence is felt on a global scale.  The talk will trace his early reception in Ireland and the United States and will explore how far his work has been enjoyed and acclaimed in a variety of countries and languages.

At a time when many languages and cultures are under threat, Burns' work in the Scots dialect demonstrates the power of language to celebrate the individual poetic conscience and the potential of words to capture the human experience.
