This festival will run from 25 to 30 June 2011 and events will have various locations and start times.

 

SATURDAY 25th June 2011

FUN DAY FOR ALL THE FAMILY 1.30pm – 5.30pm which will include:

  • Ulster-Scots music;
  • Scottish dancing; storytelling/readings & poetry in Ulster-Scots language;
  • workshops/demonstrations on accordion,
  • highland pipes, small pipes, fife, drums
  • wide range of children’s entertainment including inflatables.
     

ULSTER-SCOTS CONCERT 8.00pm – 12.00 midnight featuring:

Maiden City Beat;
a live 6 piece (incl. vocalist) band from Londonderry who play traditional Ulster-Scots music.

 

MONDAY 27th June 2011

LINE DANCING SHOWCASE.  8.00pm – 10.00pm.
Musical entertainment and tutoring by Ronnie McDonald & Friends.

 


TUESDAY 28th June 2011

ULSTER-SCOTS COUNTRY DANCE WORKSHOP. 2.00pm – 4.30pm.
Ulster-Scots musical entertainment and dance tutoring.

ULSTER-SCOTS PRESENTATION & LECTURE WITH MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT - 7.00pm – 9.00pm.
Ulster-Scots and the Plantation of Ulster – Life and experiences at the time of the plantation. A lecture and visual presentation by Simon Walker, with accompanying Ulster-Scots musical entertainment by accordionist Amanda Robinson.

 


WEDNESDAY 29th June 2011

PIPING & DRUMMING SHOWCASE 8.00pm – 10.00pm.
Piping and drumming, solo and group performances by Magheragall Pipe Band.

 


THURSDAY 30th June 2011

ULSTER-SCOTS CRAFTWORK PRESENTATION/LECTURE & EXHIBITION - 2.00pm – 5.00pm.
Exploring the craft activities of the Ulster-Scots people, then and now. A comparison of the craft activities of Ulster-Scots settlers with present day crafts, highlighting the life styles and history of the Ulster-Scots people through their crafts as a necessity or pastime.  A static display of traditional craft products with text and graphics explaining their significance in the lives of the Ulster-Scots people.

Practical demonstrations of patchwork by Betty Shirlow, crochet by Hilda Malcolmson and embroidery by Susan Irvine.
