The Ulster-Scots Agency recently initiated and funded, on behalf of Ballywalter Youth Club and the SEELB, a summer drama project for young people in the County Down villages of Ballywalter and Kircubbin.
Thirty participants aged between 11 and 18 were involved in ‘Wae a heart an a half’ which explored how the events of the First World War impacted on the lives of local people through the art s of drama and music. Over a nine day period the young people worked intensively with professional actors and theatre directors, developing performance skills and their knowledge of local history and cultural heritage. The project finished on Friday 10th July with two fantastic showcase performances to ‘full houses’ in the Village Hall, Ballywalter.
