Ulster-Scots Shankill Celebration

03 December 2011, 19:30, Spectrum Centre, Shankill Rd, Belfast

Runs to 03 December 2011

On Saturday 3rd December at 7.30pm the Spectrum Centre at the top of the Shankill Road will host “An Ulster Scots Christmas Gospel Extravaganza”. Top entertainers from both sides of the Irish Sea will show case the culture we love and long to share.

Scotsman, the Rev Jack Lamb, ministered in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling before accepting a call to be the teaching elder in Townsend Street Presbyterian Church, Belfast in September 1995. 42 years in Scotland and 16 years in Ulster have brought him many friends some of whom will help “raise the roof” at this pre-Christmas treat.

Comedian and singer, Alec Shuttleworth from Ayrshire, will compere this fun-filled event. Mark and Graeme Thompson will get our feet tapping with their unique blend of traditional and modern Ulster – Scots Gospel music and song.

The Ballysillan Highland Dancers will thrill the audience with their energy and precision as they take us on Eagle’s Wings from Highland Dancing through Sword Dancing to the Ulster-Scots hard shoe dancing so popular in America’s Appalachian Mountains.

Guest of honour for the evening will be “Scotland’s oldest teenager” 91 year old Glaswegian Jamie Stuart, author of “A Scots Gospel” and “A Glasgow Bible”. Jamie will share the Guild News o’ the bairn born in Bethlehem.

Laughter and cheers will be the order of the evening at this joyfu’ celebration o’ oor culture an’ oor Saviour. Dinna miss it!
