Did you know...

...there is a Blue Plaque in the honour of Ulster-Scot Robert Lloyd Praeger and his sister in Holywood, County Down?

Robert was probably the most important field botanist who has ever worked in Ireland.  He was also recognised for his contributions to archaeology, Quaternary geology, phytogeography, zoology, history and librarianship.  He received many honours and distinctions for his work. He found weeds so fascinating that he published a book about them in 1913!

He has also studied the major cave system of Ireland with Robert Francis Scharff in the 1900s, and later surveyed many archaeolgical sites with Robert Alexander Stewart Macalister for the Royal Irish Academy.

The Blue Plaque dedicated to Robert and his sister was unveiled by the Ulster History Circle.
