Government moves on new academy


The creation of a £12 million Ulster-Scots Academy moved one step closer with the announcement of a new implementation group.



The Special European Union Programme Body has recently launched the Peace 2 Extension programme, offering 144 million Euro to communities in Northern Ireland and the Border Counties.

Six new books on the language


Contemporary writing in the Ulster-Scots language has been given a gigantic boost through the publication of six new books in the ambitious "Living Writers" series.

 


Michael McCullough, from the Ulster-Scots Agency, writer John M'Gimpsey Johnston and Dr Clifford Smyth, of the Ulster-Scots Language Society, at the launch of six new books from Ullans Press. John is the author of two books - 'Blethers fae Bellyhie' and 'Mae Biggin Deys aun Mair Blethers'.

Another Board member for Agency


ULSTER-SCOTS language enthusiast and musician Mark Thompson (left) has been appointed as a member of the Board of the Ulster-Scots Agency.

  In his professional capacity, the 33 year-old is a director of the GCAS Gorup (see www.gcasgroup.com) and is managing director of GCAS Design.

  Speaking of his appointment, Mark said: "I am delighted that I have the confidence of those who proposed by appointment, and will work to ensure that all aspects of Ulster-Scots identity and heritage are at the heart of cultural life in Ulster.

  "I look forward to working for the betterment of the entire Ulster-Scots community."
