The Agency seeks to foster an ever growing desire amongst individuals and community groups to express their cultural identity through the arts, music (fiddle, drums, pipes, fife etc.) and song, dance (Highland, Set and Country dancing), poetry and prose, and performance.
Ulster-Scots culture can claim to have world-class musicians, particularly in Highland piping and drumming and plays its full part in the wonderful musical melting pot between Scotland, Ulster and the rest of the island.
The Agency actively supports a variety of grass-roots activities both in Northern Ireland and counties Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan through grant awards and sponsorship.
The Agency believes that the promotion and development of both the culture and language in tandem is the best way forward.
Its work has been make easier by the excellence and commitment or groups, such as the Ulster-Scots Language Society, the Ulster-Scots Academy, the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, Belfast Burns Association and Burns Clubs and the Presbyterian Historical Society that have paved the way over the years.
The collective voice of the Ulster-Scots language and cultural movements has been proven to give an enormous boost to the Ulster-Scots revival.
Such has been the spectacular growth of interest and activity in the Ulster-Scots movement that its renaissance has become one of the most dynamic and dramatic cultural and linguistic revivals in post-nationalist Europe. |
