Ulster-Scots fiddle group debut album
Christmas came early for several young Ulster-Scots from Markethill when they launched their first CD 'Gosford's Fair Demesne'.
The Fiddle Steeks Ulster-Scots Orchestra is just one of the spin-offs from the work by local group, Mid-Armagh Community Network (MACN), which receives funding from the Ulster-Scots Agency.
The CD was made possible due to support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and it has a fine collection of Ulster-Scots/Scots toe-tapping tunes and slow airs.
Membership of the 'Fiddle Steek', which covers young and old, has grown rapidly to 30 in recent years, increasing in skills, repertoire and professionalism under the guidance of musical director Keith Lyttle.
Andrew Dunlop, development worker with Mid-Armagh Community Network, confirms: "The orchestra has been going since 2000 and continues to provide a vital social outlet for the Ulster-Scots community in the Markethill area and provides a great opportunity to promote Ulster-Scots culture and musical traditions to everyone".
The CD is on sale now for £10 and can be purchased from the Mid-Armagh Community Network, 27a Main Street, Markethill or by ringing 028 3755 1409.
