LECTURE: Utterly Compelling: the Gibson Collection and Robert Burns, with Dr Carol Baraniuk

Andrew Gibson loaned 300 volumes from his Collection, while it was still in his possession, to the Glasgow Burns Centenary Exhibition of 1896. This lecture will consider the importance of the Collection in Burns’ commemoration and discuss a number of items of particular interest. The talk will also offer some insights from current research into Burns’ letters and poems, and into biographical writing about the poet, with the aim of celebrating the Collection and its lasting significance.
