Activities
The Ulster-Scots Agency’s plans over the next three years will centre on: -
· Curriculum development and provision of educational resources and learning materials in partnership with Stranmillis University College including research on the impact of the programme.
· The development of academic courses, curricula, and qualifications at all levels in the education system.
· Support for the Institute of Ulster-Scots Studies at the Magee Campus of the University of Ulster for the study of and research into the Ulster-Scots culture and history.
The Ulster-Scots Agency will recruit a Director of Language and Education to take forward its education programme and to act as the interface with its partners. The Ulster-Scots Agency will consult with the Departments of Education and the Department of Education and Learning with a view to establishing an effective partnership which delivers the provision of Ulster Scots educational resources and material. The Agency will encourage the Department of Education to embrace the materials prepared and to ensure that Ulster Scots is afforded the rights contained in the European Charter
The Ulster-Scots Agency will monitor the progress of its partners in the development of its educational programme through both internal and independent assessment.
Resources
A budget of £1.07m will be allocated from the projected figures to deliver this programme of work over the period of the plan. The Agency will seek to obtain the cooperation of others in assisting with the implementation of the rights enshrined in the European Charter and if successful the projected budget figures may be appropriate.
Performance Indicators
The key indicators will be the outputs of the projects being undertaken in association with Stranmillis University College and the Institute of Ulster-Scots at the Magee Campus of the University of Ulster.
The output from Stranmillis will be the extent of material that is transferable to the classroom.
The output from Magee will be the number of research papers produced and accredited.
