Rathfriland High School's music and dance workshops
Culture, Co Down
The Kilkeel-based Schomberg Society delivered Ulster Scots workshops in fifing, Lambeg drumming, the tin whistle and highland dance to Rathfriland High School Year 8 students.
The students are currently exploring their cultural identity with a topic entitled 'I Am What I Am'.
Included in the picture are Schomberg Society tutors, principal Simon Harper and teacher Donna Wilson. Through these workshops the students were able to try out the musical instruments and attempt the Highland Fling.
The students also took on board some Ulster- Scots words and sayings, the majority of the students had heard the words and sayings from their grandparents but they did not know where they originated from. Overall it was a very worthwhile project and the Schomberg Society wish to thank the Agency for supporting this.
