Ulster-Scots culture in Newry and Mourne

Ulster-Scots highland dance music and pipe bands are to be pushed to the top of the agenda in South Down.
Newry and Mourne Mayor Councillor Jack Patterson made the announcement at the launch of the Council's Ulster-Scots committee strategy, pledging also to develop east-west programmes.
The Government, meanwhile, has been urged to step up its efforts to promote minority languages, including Ulster-Scots.
The 45-nation Council of Europe said the UK should "as a matter of urgency" comply with the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
The authority called for the creation of conditions for the use of Scots and Ulster-Scots in public life, for primary and secondary education in Scottish Gaelic to be made available in areas where the language is used, and for a Scottish Gaelic television service to be set up.
A statement issued in Strasbourg said the evaluation of the language situation in the UK was based on information submitted by the British authorities.
