Ulster-Scots recipes

Schools in the North Eastern Education and Library Board last year were invited to take part in a competition promoted by the Ulster-Scots Language Society.

As recent visitors to the website will be aware, the competition was entitled 'Ate up, ye'r at yer Grannie's!' and was immensely successful in combining the Ulster-Scots language and the interest of primary school children.

The joint winners of £750 each were Balnamore Primary School, Ballymoney and Buick Memorial Primary School from Cullybackey.  The selection of recipes featured on this website are from the recipe book which was produced by the Primary 7 pupils at Buick Memorial Primary School.  To purchase a copy, please write to Buick Memorial Primary School, 62 Main St, Cullybackey, Ballymena,  County Antrim BT42 1BW.  Tel 028 2588 0368

A selection of these recipes are now available:

Old - Fashioned Vegetable Soup

Salted Ling Fish

Left-Overs Broth

Scotch Collops with Suet Dumplings
