Six new books on the language
Contemporary writing in the Ulster-Scots language has been given a gigantic boost through the publication of six new books by writers in Ulster-Scots. All the books are from the Ullans Press, financially supported by the Ulster-Scots Agency, and are the first to be published in the ambitious "Living Writers" series which aims to promote contemporary writing in Ulster-Scots.
"Blethers Fae Bellyhie", by John M'Gimpsey Johnston is first in the selection followed by Charlie Reynolds' book, "Mae Granfeyther's Tunge". The middle two books are entitled "Tha Wizard's Quill" by Charlie Gillen, and John M'Gimpsey Johnston's second contribution "Mae Biggin Deys aun Mair Blethers". The final two books in the collection are "Alang tha Shore" by Dr Philip Robinson and a collection of writings by the 2004 language class: "Hamewarks fae Ballyboley".
The books retail at £4.99 and can be bought through the Ulster-Scots Language Society by contacting 028-90758985 or usls@ulster-scots.com
