Clash of the Kilts

The future of highland dance in the Province looks promising after an impressive turnout and accomplished performances during the annual South Belfast Highland Dance Competition held last month.

The event was organised by South Belfast Cultural Society and sponsored by the Ulster-Scots Agency.

Now in its third year the competition has attracted overseas recognition as a top-class dance meet and this year more than 20 dancers from Scotland attended.

“The competition was a great success with 90 dancers as young as five years – old taking part,” said organiser John Dean.

“It brought together dancers from both rural and urban areas to recognise and reward their training, commitment and progress in the thriving highland dance scene.

“The standard of home-grown talent was certainly very encouraging and it was also beneficial for local dancers to see performances from our Scottish visitors.”

Dancers are now invited to participate in the next Belfast based competition on Saturday 26 November. For further details contact John on 028 9032 17 66.
