Dance fest' at Portadown

There was a record 42 teams competing in the Country Dance section in this year's Portadown Festival of Scottish Dancing.

Over 500 children took part in this growing competition organised by the Portadown Festival Association with funding from the Ulster-Scots Agency.

And as for Hillhall Primary School in Lisburn, that meant virtually all of the pupils from this small school took part under the tutelage of dance teacher Lucy Mulholland

This was the first year that the competition has been extended to two days in order to accommodate the demand from competitors. A full report with pictures will be carried in the May edition of the Ulster-Scot.

Enjoying the spring sunshine is Highland dancer Joanna Singleton (10) (left) and Scottish Country dancer Beth Major, (9) from Markethill, Co Armagh, who both took part in the sixth annual Portadown Festival of Scottish Dance.
